Memorialization of DestructionIn the midst of conflict and devastation, the ability to document atrocities and preserve the truth becomes paramount. The War Up Close Project, spearheaded by experts from Discover.ua and FreegenGroup, stands as a beacon of courage and technological innovation in the face of adversity. Through the adept use of state-of-the-art technologies such as 360° panoramic photos, drone footage, and 3D modeling, this initiative unveils the harrowing genocide inflicted upon the Ukrainian nation, ensuring that the world bears witness to these crimes against humanity.
At the forefront of this endeavor is Mykola Omelchenko, a seasoned photojournalist and the first Google Trusted Photographer in Ukraine. With unwavering determination, Omelchenko embarked on a perilous quest to capture the grim reality of the conflict-ridden landscape. Armed with his camera and an unyielding commitment to truth, he ventured into the heart of danger, documenting scenes of devastation and despair that would otherwise remain unseen.
The utilization of 360° panoramic photos and drone footage has proved to be invaluable tools in this mission. These immersive visual representations provide a comprehensive view of the affected areas, allowing for detailed analysis and documentation of the extent of the damage. Moreover, they have played a crucial role in aiding rescue efforts, facilitating debris removal, and assisting in the assessment of the humanitarian crisis.
Beyond mere documentation, the War Up Close Project is paving the way for the preservation of memory and history through the creation of virtual museums of war. These digital repositories, established in key regions such as Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv, serve as poignant reminders of the human cost of conflict. By working in tandem with public agencies such as the State Emergency Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the project ensures that the truth is not only documented but also disseminated to the global community.
However, the work of the War Up Close team is not without its challenges. Operating in a volatile and dangerous environment, the team faces constant threats to their safety. Yet, undeterred by the risks, they press on, driven by a shared sense of duty to bear witness to the atrocities unfolding before them.
As the world grapples with the horrors of war, initiatives like the War Up Close Project serve as a stark reminder of the importance of truth and accountability. Through the adept use of cutting-edge technology and unwavering courage, this project sheds light on the darkest corners of humanity, ensuring that the voices of the victims are heard and their stories remembered for generations to come. In a world plagued by conflict and strife, it is through acts of bravery and compassion that we pave the path towards a more just and compassionate future.

Idea
Many Ukrainian cities were the epicenter of the battles during the war. For many weeks Russians fusilladed Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kherson and other regions of Ukraine.
The world is not fully aware of the consequences of the war and perceives it as something distant and unreal.
