Come join us for a lively celebration of Ukrainian culture and heritage at the “Celebrate Ukraine in Kelowna: Independence Day Festival!”
For 33 years, Ukraine has commemorated its most significant national holiday, Independence Day, on August 24. This day is crucial for shaping and preserving national identity, fostering unity, and instilling pride. Independence Day is more than a public holiday; it is a celebration of national identity, pride, and the pursuit of democracy and development. It honors the achievements of past generations and highlights Ukraine's resolute path toward becoming a democratic, independent, and robust state.
At our festival you’ll experience a vibrant market with a diverse range of vendors, mouth-watering food stalls, and wine tasting (ID required). Kids will have a blast with various games. It’s the perfect chance to discover unique crafts and products while enjoying delicious treats.
Cozy up for a special free screening of the Ukrainian animated film Stolen Princess (please note: the film will be shown without subtitles).
Our family-friendly event will be held at Grizzli Winery. The evening promises a rich mix of activities, entertainment, and a vibrant sense of community.
Event and movie hosted Ukraine Ukraine Harmony, Film Hive. Sponsored by United Way BC, Ukraine Harmony, Film Hive, Bravery Foundation, Sustain Ukraine. Ukrainian Canadian Volunteers Association and KSWU along with other organizations and local vendors joining the event as participants.
This event is dedicated to supporting the recent tragedy at Okhmatdyt Hospital in Kyiv. All donations will go directly to the Okhmatdyt Fund, providing aid to those impacted by the tragedy.

SYNOPSIS
Based on true events, this drama delves into the lives of Ukrainian writers during the era of the Executed Renaissance.
In collaboration with MUR and their musical project "You're a Romantic," it tells the story of the "Slovo" house, where Soviet authorities gathered Ostap Vyshnia, Pavlo Tychyna, Les Kurbas, Mykola Khvylovy, Mykola Semenko, Krushelnytska, Yalovy, Sosiura, Yanovych, Johansen, and many others, compelling them to work for the benefit of the system.
The film reveals how the communist paradise transforms into a true hell of repression, executions, lost dreams and lives. Yet, we will always remember not only their talented works but also their tragic fates.
